Cameroon
A group of Cameroonian professionals and civil rights organisation, has filed a complaint against Camrail, in France.
The Professional Union of train drivers and the Committee for the release of political prisoners complained of involuntary homicide, unintentional injuries, inefficiency, non-assistance of persons in danger”, among others against operators in charge of rail transport in Cameroon.
The complaint comes following the derailment of a passenger train on October 21st, which officially killed 80 people and injured at least 550 injured.
The group hope that the investigation by the public prosecutor will shed light on the management of the rail transport sector by the Cameroon government on the one hand.
And also address the question of concession granted to the Bolloré Group.
This complaint filed in France is parallel to the administrative and judicial procedures already underway in Cameroon.
Twenty eight victims of the train crash have sued the management of the rail company Camrail owned by French group Bolloré, for “failures and negligence”.
The accident occurred in Eseka on the line between the country’s main cities, Douala and the capital, Yaounde killing at least 79 people and injured over 600 more.
